Photos reveal “injury marks”, body sent for post-mortem: Police

Srinagar, Oct 24 (KNO): A non-local resident, hailing from West Bengal was found dead at Ganbugh Tengpora area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district this morning, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the body of a non-local man from West Bengal was recovered at Ganbugh area of Tengpora, Srinagar this morning. He said the man was later identified as MD Jahud from West Bengal. Additionally, pictures accessed by KNO revealed “injury marks” on his face, while the body has been sent for a post-mortem, and the cause of these marks is not yet known. Meanwhile, an official earlier told KNO that locals saw the body and informed the police, who took it into custody and sent it for a post-mortem. A police spokesperson, in a statement issued to KNO, said police received telephonic information that the dead body of an unidentified male was lying in the fields in the Gangbugh area of Srinagar. Upon receiving this information, a police team from Police Station Batamaloo reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. It reads that the initial investigation identified the deceased as Mohd Zakir, son of Mohd Jawadullah, a resident of West Bengal. Legal action under 174 CrPC has been initiated at Police Station Batamaloo to ascertain the cause of death. Prima facie, it appears to be an incident of a wild animal attack. “The associates and family members of the deceased are being questioned, including his brother, Mohd Javed, who was residing with him in rented accommodation at Gangbugh. Technical evidence, including CCTV footage, is being analyzed. Further investigation into the case is ongoing,” the statement further reads—(KNO)
